Egypt and Jordan reacted strongly on Sunday to reports of IDF activity in the buffer zone on the Syrian border. A security source told the Saudi Al-Arabiya channel last night that the IDF had taken over the Jabal al-Sheikh site on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon, following the withdrawal of the Syrian army from the area.

The response was not long in coming. Egypt issued a strong statement condemning the "occupation of territories in the buffer zone," which they claimed was a violation of the 1974 armistice agreement.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi joined in the condemnation, declaring: "We condemn any attempt to occupy Syrian territory and Israel's entry into any part of its territory. This is a step that violates international law."

The IDF emphasizes that the operation is intended to ensure the safety of the residents of the Golan Heights following developments in Syria, and that it is only a defensive measure.

However, the publication of the IDF's control of strategic sites on the border raises questions about the broader goals of the move, especially in light of the growing tension in the region.
