The Shocking Truth: Top Hamas Commander Thought Dead for Months Is Actually Alive
The IDF has confirmed that Hitham Hujari, the commander of Hamas’s Shati Brigade, whom they previously believed to have been killed in a December 2023 airstrike, is still alive. This is not the first time the IDF has made such a mistake in calculating the deaths of terrorists following airstrikes.

The IDF's earlier assessment, based on intelligence gathered after the attack, had concluded with high certainty that Hujari was among those eliminated in the strike. However, after further examination, the Israeli military acknowledged that the intelligence was inaccurate, and Hujari had survived the bombing.
The admission came following reports from Hamas-affiliated media outlets that Hujari had been seen attending a "ceremony" during the handover of hostage Keith Segal at the Gaza port. This event contradicted the earlier reports of his death. The IDF's initial announcement, made on December 3, 2023, had claimed that Hujari was targeted and killed by an Israeli airstrike. According to the statement at the time, Hujari was responsible for overseeing significant Hamas operations, including the security of Shifa Hospital and organizing attacks against IDF forces, particularly in the Shati refugee camp. The IDF had also pointed to his involvement in the October 7 attacks on Israel.
Hujari had been a senior figure in Hamas, playing a key role in the group's military operations and orchestrating several attacks against Israeli citizens. His leadership in the Shati Brigade made him a prominent target for Israeli forces.
This revelation is an embarrassment for the IDF, which had publicly declared Hujari's death, and it highlights the difficulties in gathering accurate intelligence during ongoing conflict. Despite the misstep, the IDF has reaffirmed its commitment to its mission, stressing that the fight against Hamas and its commanders remains a top priority.
