Two Israeli reserve soldiers were killed and eight others wounded in an early morning terrorist attack Tuesday at a military outpost in the Jordan Valley. The attack occurred around 6:00 AM local time.

The IDF identified the victims as Zvika Friedman, a father of six from Kibbutz Ein HaNetziv, and Master Sergeant (res.) Ofer Yung, 39, from Tel Aviv. Of the eight wounded soldiers, two are in serious condition and six sustained light injuries. All casualties were members of Battalion 8211 of the Ephraim Regional Brigade.

According to IDF investigators, the attacker, armed with an M-16 rifle and wearing tactical gear, approached the Taysir checkpoint on foot during the night. The terrorist ambushed two soldiers at close range as they exited their fortified position during a shift change at dawn.

Following the initial attack, an intense firefight erupted between the assailant and the remaining squad of 11 soldiers stationed at the outpost. The attacker managed to breach both the outpost and its fortified position before attempting to flee the scene.

The incident ended when a soldier from the battalion commander's unit successfully neutralized the attacker with a fragmentation grenade. Military authorities are currently working to identify the attacker.

All wounded soldiers have been transported to nearby hospitals, and their families have been notified.

The Emek HaMayanot Regional Council released a statement expressing condolences to the Friedman family: "Our community stands with Zvika's wife Gal and their six children during this devastating time."

The attack marks one of the deadliest incidents in the Jordan Valley region in recent months. Military officials have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the breach of the outpost's security.
