Overnight earthquake felt throughout Israel after powerful quake hits Crete
The 6.3-magnitude tremor reached Israel and Egypt; no casualties or destruction reported so far.



An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck Crete, Greece last night (between Tuesday and Wednesday) and was felt across Israel as well. No damage or casualties have been reported at this stage.
According to the German research institute for geology, the epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 83 km deep beneath the surface of the Mediterranean Sea, near the shores of Crete. Egypt also reported feeling the tremor.
The last time an earthquake was felt in Israel was on March 6, when tremors were reported in Eilat. The geological institute noted that the intensity of the tremor was 4.3 on the Richter scale, occurring in the Red Sea near the shores of the city of Nuweiba in Sinai - about 65 km from the Israeli border.
