IDF Seeks Shin Bet Help on "Neza" Film

Military officials concerned classified intelligence may have been leaked during production of controversial film about Unit 8200; formal request awaiting decision by Military Advocate General

IDF Turns to Shin Bet for Help Investigating "NAZA" Documentary

IDF officials have approached the Shin Bet requesting assistance in investigating the controversial documentary "NAZA", which has sparked international controversy. The domestic security service has not yet become involved in the probe, according to reports Tuesday evening.

Sources within the Shin Bet told the military they are awaiting a formal request, which is expected to be submitted following a decision by Chief Military Advocate General Itai Ofir in coordination with Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara.

According to journalist Yossi Yehoshua, military officials are particularly concerned that classified information or material prohibited from publication may have been used during the film's production. The investigation is also examining the identities of those interviewed in the documentary and whether any are currently serving in the IDF or reserves.

Military sources quoted in the report said that "if it turns out that active-duty personnel were involved in transmitting prohibited information, the possibility of taking action against them will be examined." Unit 8200 is a focal point of concern, partly due to its extensive ties with intelligence agencies and international entities, and fears of damage to its operations and personnel.

The approach to the Shin Bet follows a series of steps ordered yesterday by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir in response to the film. Among other measures, Zamir instructed the Chief Military Advocate General to examine and advance possible legal actions regarding the film and those involved in it, as well as to investigate information security aspects and the possibility that classified materials were leaked and used in its production.

Additionally, a multi-organizational, interdisciplinary team has been established under the leadership of the head of the Planning Directorate, tasked with formulating courses of action to address the claims raised in the film.
