A 13-year-old boy was killed in a traffic accident on the Haifa-Acre highway near Kiryat Bialik late Wednesday night after being struck by a passing vehicle.
The emergency call came into Magen David Adom's dispatch center shortly before midnight. Paramedics and EMTs who rushed to the scene found the teen lying on the roadway in critical condition, unconscious, with no pulse and not breathing, suffering from severe multi-system trauma.
Medical teams immediately began advanced resuscitation efforts at the scene, including electric shocks administered via defibrillator and artificial respiration. The boy was evacuated in an intensive care ambulance while resuscitation efforts continued, but doctors at the hospital were ultimately forced to pronounce him dead.
Moishy Shinfeld, an EMT with Hatzalah's motorcycle unit, reported: "When I arrived at the scene, I found a pedestrian, a 14-year-old boy, unconscious with multi-system trauma after being struck by a vehicle. Together with Magen David Adom EMTs and paramedics, we performed advanced resuscitation on him, and he was evacuated in critical condition for continued treatment in the trauma room at Rambam Hospital in Haifa."
Magen David Adom paramedic Gili Berlia, senior EMT Elchanan Biner, and Magen David Adom motorcycle unit EMT Shlomo Fox, who treated the victim at the scene, recounted: "This was a very serious traffic accident. The boy was lying on the road after being struck by a vehicle, unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing, suffering from multi-system trauma.
"We immediately began advanced resuscitation efforts that included administering electric shocks from a defibrillator and artificial respiration, and we evacuated him in a Magen David Adom intensive care ambulance while continuing resuscitation efforts to the hospital, with his condition defined as critical."
Police traffic investigators arrived at the scene and opened an investigation into the accident.
