Emergency status to continue

Cabinet moved underground at last minute

Ministers notified of location change only at 8:30 AM, two and a half hours before the session • Government expected to extend emergency status until October 20

Cabinet Meeting Moved to Secret Underground Site at Last Minute

The weekly cabinet meeting was moved Tuesday morning from the Prime Minister's Office to an underground location. Ministers received notification of the change only around 8:30 AM, approximately two and a half hours before the session scheduled for 11:00.

The government is expected to extend the emergency status on the home front until October 20. According to the explanatory notes attached to the proposal, "Firing continues at various scales from Iran, as well as from Yemen, toward different countries in the Middle East."

The explanatory notes state that uncertainty remains regarding the Iranian and Lebanese arenas, and therefore "according to security officials' assessment, there is still a high probability of an attack on the civilian population." A similar sentence has appeared in all extensions of the special home front status approved by the government in recent months.

The relocation of the cabinet meeting comes against the backdrop of ongoing security tensions. In recent days, US President Donald Trump revealed that a specific threat related to Iran led to the rapid evacuation of American B-1 bombers from Britain. The evacuation was so urgent that some air crews took off before refueling aircraft had completed their preparations.

Meanwhile, President Yitzchak Herzog addressed the Iranian threat in an interview with FOX News, stating that Iran is "an empire of evil threatening the free world," and that it must not be allowed any access to nuclear capabilities. "President Trump spoke with great openness and honesty, and I believe his analysis is completely correct," Herzog said.
