Haddad: Channel 14 running campaign against me

The Amcha Yisrael candidate says the channel is distorting his past work with a charity that brings sick children from Gaza and enemy states to Israeli hospitals for treatment

Yosef Haddad

Yosef Haddad, running on the Amcha Yisrael list, published a sharp attack on Channel 14 Tuesday morning, after the channel reported on his past ties to "Save a Child's Heart," a charity that brings children with heart conditions from around the world, including from Gaza and enemy states, to Israel for medical treatment.

The row began Monday night, when Channel 14's main evening broadcast ran a report on Haddad's activities before the October 7 attack. He responded that the channel was trying to present him as someone who promoted the charity, while stripping away the context in which the coverage was produced.

"In tonight's Channel 14 broadcast they ran another report as part of the political campaign against me, with a false and distorted account claiming that before October 7 I promoted a charity that helps children from enemy states and Gaza reach Israeli hospitals," he wrote.

According to Haddad, the footage shown on the channel was taken from a report he produced as part of his journalistic work for the English-language i24NEWS, and its purpose was to present to the world the humanitarian work of an Israeli organisation.

"I did not promote the charity and I did not receive a shekel from it - I promoted Israeli hasbara!" Haddad clarified.

"Why doesn't Channel 14 investigate that?"

Haddad went on to point out that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu himself had expressed support in the past for the charity's work, and claimed that Channel 14 chose not to mention it.

"But wait, [do you] know who else 'promoted' this charity? Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu himself," he wrote. "So maybe what's permitted for Bibi is forbidden for Yosef Haddad, like for example talking in the past about a Palestinian state."

Tuesday morning he sharpened his criticism, after the channel's morning programme continued to cover the issue.

"Right now on Channel 14's morning broadcast they're continuing to push this spin. They didn't mention there that Netanyahu 'promoted' this charity, they didn't mention that they themselves ran positive reports about this charity," he wrote.

"And by the way, want something else interesting? On the last Independence Day, Miri Regev gave Chaim Tayeb the honour of lighting a torch, and Chaim Tayeb is president of one of the branches of this charity! Why doesn't Channel 14 investigate that?!"

He closed by claiming the publications against him stem from political motives, and expressed confidence that the public will not accept the claims directed at him.
