Two weeks before the election

Winter: "Look what you did to him!"

Amcha Yisrael chairman Ofer Winter lashes out at right-wing and Likud activists who pressured his party member into resigning: The pressure drove him to quit. I embrace and respect his decision

Amcha Yisrael chairman Ofer Winter issued a public statement today (Wednesday) following the upheaval in his party after Davidi Ben Zion announced his resignation.

"Look what you did to Davidi and his family," Winter said angrily. "How do you do what you asked not to be done to you? You asked that people not protest outside your home, that they not send you vile messages. The pressure drove him to quit. I embrace and respect his decision."

Last night, the party responded to the resignation of Ben Zion, who held the eighth spot on its list, leveling serious accusations against figures in the political establishment who the party says subjected him and his family to heavy pressure.

In an official statement, the party sent a message of support to Ben Zion alongside a sharp attack on those behind the scenes: "Dear Davidi, we love you. We are sorry for the pressure, threats and harassment directed at the children and the family by elements who simply are not willing to let new and clean forces enter Israeli politics."

The party added that it understands the circumstances of the decision: "Not everyone can withstand the illegitimate and disgraceful pressure that was brought to bear on you and your family. Thank you for the shared journey."

The party's response comes against the backdrop of evening reports about Ben Zion's expected resignation, just two weeks before election day, amid polling data and fears of lost votes in the right-wing camp.
