Israeli singer Meydad Tasa posted an unusual warning to his followers after discovering that unknown individuals have opened dozens of fake social-media accounts impersonating him and are using them to send harassing messages to women.
In a video posted to his social-media accounts, he said he had received several reports from women who had fallen for the impersonation, and stressed that the impersonators are using sophisticated methods to deceive the public.
"There are people who have opened dozens of fake accounts in my name and are sending messages to girls and harassing them," the singer said. "I'm asking anyone who sees something like this to report it to Meta quickly, so we can stop them and find information about them and deal with them one by one."
Tasa added that he has already contacted Meta, which he said has begun addressing the issue, but the phenomenon continues and additional accounts keep being opened. "I've already received several reports from girls who fell for this, because they're using very sophisticated tools," he said. "We've already sent it to Meta and they're working on it, but we're talking about dozens of accounts."
The singer concluded by asking his followers to help stop the phenomenon: "I'm asking anyone who sees something like this to report it and stop this thing. I don't want anyone to get hurt."
