Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu petitioned the Jerusalem District Court on Sunday to force the Israel Police to hand over documents on the legal representation given to Chief Superintendent Rinat Saban, one of the investigators in his criminal cases.
The documents concern Saban’s legal battle with National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir after he refused to promote her to deputy commissioner. Saban, who was involved in the investigations in Cases 1000, 2000 and 4000, received free representation in that case from the Movement for Quality Government. According to the report, the then-legal adviser to the Israel Police approved the arrangement.
Netanyahu, through his attorney Amit Hadad, filed a freedom-of-information request with the police for documents on how that representation was approved. The police rejected the request, saying the material fell under “internal records,” and Netanyahu turned to the court.
The petition was first reported by journalist Moshe Steinmetz.
