Trump: Close France's borders now

US President Donald Trump blamed Muslim immigration for violent protests sweeping France, calling on Paris to seal its borders as riots continue and arrests top 270

Trump and Macron

US President Donald Trump weighed in Sunday on the violent riots continuing across France, blaming Muslim immigration for igniting the unrest and calling for a crackdown on the country's border policy.

"France is burning!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. "The immigration of people from a completely different world, people who carry hatred in their hearts, has crushed a country that was once so great."

Trump concluded his post with a direct appeal to France: "Close the borders and take control of the situation, before it's too late!"

Trump's remarks come as violent protests continue to sweep France, with recent days seeing arson and break-ins at buildings across the country, including a Jewish synagogue in Paris that was broken into and vandalized, alongside the Limoges city hall building, which was completely burned down last night.

According to the latest police update, at least 272 people have been arrested nationwide in connection with the riots. Protest organizers claimed yesterday that some 800,000 people took part in approximately 1,750 demonstrations and protest actions, though these figures have not been independently verified.
