Opposition split

Liberman blocks reform repeal bid

Yisrael Beiteinu chairman tells opposition partners he will not support repealing Levin's judicial laws at this stage, urging focus on Knesset speaker race and term limits instead

Eisenkot and Liberman

Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Liberman has delivered a sharp message to his opposition partners: he will not support efforts to repeal the judicial reform laws passed by the coalition, at least not now.

Channel 13 political correspondent Michael Shemesh reports that Liberman has made clear he will not lend his backing to moves aimed at undoing the judicial legislation enacted under Justice Minister Yariv Levin.

Speaker race and term limits come first

Instead, Liberman is calling on the opposition bloc to direct its energy and parliamentary resources toward other immediate goals, steering clear of battles over the judicial overhaul for the time being.

The Yisrael Beiteinu leader outlined his priorities: electing a new Knesset speaker, advancing legislation to impose term limits on the prime minister, and selecting a state comptroller. Those, he argues, are where the opposition should concentrate its efforts now.
