Yavne School Shut Down After Student Throws Chair, Leaving Teacher Unconscious
A primary school in Yavne has been shuttered by the Teachers' Union following a violent incident where a student struck a teacher with a chair, causing her to lose consciousness.

A primary school in Yavne was shut down today following a severe violent incident in which a student struck a teacher with a chair, leaving her unconscious. The Teachers' Union (Histadrut HaMorim) announced an immediate strike at the institution in protest of the rising tide of violence against educators.
The event took place yesterday (Tuesday) during school hours. According to eyewitness reports and school officials, a primary school student began throwing chairs within the building. One chair was reportedly thrown from a third-floor balcony, while another was hurled directly at a teacher.
The teacher was struck with significant force and lost consciousness at the scene. Emergency services evacuated her to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Hospital officials have since reported that while she remains hospitalized, her condition has shown signs of improvement.
In response to the "extreme and exceptional" incident, the Teachers' Union ordered a full strike at the school starting Wednesday morning. Union representatives stated that the strike is a necessary measure to protect the safety of the teaching staff and to demand immediate systemic changes. It remains unclear when regular classes will resume.
The incident has sparked outrage and fear among the school's community. Speaking to N12, several parents claimed that this was not an isolated event.
Parents alleged a history of violence at the school, involving both student-on-staff attacks and incidents between students.
One mother expressed her distress, stating, "We are anxious. My daughter is afraid to go to school after witnessing a chair flying from the third floor."
Some parents claimed that previous warnings regarding the school’s climate and specific instances of violence were not addressed transparently by the administration.
The Ministry of Education released a statement confirming the severity of the case, "The exceptional and grave incident that occurred at the school is being handled and closely monitored by regional supervision, professional ministry officials, and the Yavne Municipality. Disciplinary and educational measures are being taken. Simultaneously, the district is engaging with the school community to facilitate a swift return to a safe educational routine."
The Ministry added that due to privacy laws and the sensitivity of the disciplinary process, further details regarding the student involved could not be disclosed.
