A 22-year-old medical student from India created a fake pro-Trump social media influencer using artificial intelligence, generating millions of views and earning thousands of dollars monthly before the account was shut down.

The student, identified only as “Sam,” used Google’s Gemini tools to build a persona named “Emily Hart,” a blonde, conservative-leaning influencer who posted political and lifestyle content tailored to a right-wing American audience. The account featured images and videos of the character engaging in stereotypical activities alongside pro-Trump messaging.

According to Sam, the account quickly went viral, with individual posts reaching millions of views. Within weeks, the profile amassed thousands of followers, many of whom subscribed to paid content on external platforms or purchased themed merchandise, believing the persona was real.

Sam said he spent less than an hour a day managing the account, describing it as an easy source of income compared to local earning opportunities. The account was eventually removed by Instagram for fraudulent activity.

The case highlights a broader trend identified in recent investigations, including a New York Times report that found hundreds of AI-generated influencer accounts promoting pro-Trump content across platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.

Researchers say these accounts are becoming more convincing due to advances in AI, while enforcement of disclosure rules remains inconsistent. Many profiles do not identify themselves as synthetic, increasing the likelihood that users will engage with them as if they were real individuals.

Experts warn that the proliferation of such content could distort online discourse by creating the appearance of widespread support or consensus. The relatively low cost of producing AI-generated content has made it easier to scale these operations, raising concerns about their potential use in coordinated influence campaigns.
