Victim of Attempted Beheading in Belfast Loses His Eye
Belfast knife attack victim Stephen Ogilvie loses left eye; Sudanese suspect Hadi Alodid charged with attempted murder after brutal stabbing on Kinnaird Avenue, north Belfast.

Stephen Ogilvie, the 44-year-old man who was the victim of a violent knife attack in north Belfast on Monday evening, has lost his left eye entirely, a court has heard.
Ogilvie, described by neighbours as a vulnerable adult with additional needs, suffered life-changing injuries including serious damage to his eyes, slash wounds to his face, neck, and back during the assault on Kinnaird Avenue. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Hadi Alodid, a 30-year-old Sudanese man, appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court today via videolink charged with the attempted murder of Mr Ogilvie, making threats to kill an NHS radiographer, and possession of a knife. He was remanded in custody for four weeks.
The incident, which was captured on video and widely shared online, showed a man repeatedly stabbing at the victim’s head and neck area while he was on the ground. Witnesses reportedly shouted that the attacker was “trying to cut his head off.”
Background
Mr Ogilvie, originally from Scotland and working as an NHS radiographer, lived in the same residential block as his alleged attacker. The attack has triggered significant unrest in Belfast, with protests and disorder breaking out on Tuesday night.
Police have condemned the subsequent violence, while community leaders have appealed for calm.
This is a developing story. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
