A sharp dispute is developing inside the Trump administration over the emerging agreement with Iran, after CIA Director John Ratcliffe reportedly warned President Donald Trump that recent intelligence raises serious doubts about Tehran’s intentions.

According to a report by Barak Ravid, Ratcliffe presented Trump with an intelligence assessment suggesting that Iran may not be prepared to fully carry out the commitments Washington is demanding as part of a future nuclear agreement.

The assessment reportedly points to a gap between the messages Iranian officials are sending to the United States and mediators, and the internal discussions taking place in Tehran. Officials familiar with the matter said some U.S. intelligence agencies believe Iran does not intend to make all of the concessions required for a permanent deal.

“The intelligence reflects that Iranian intentions do not align with their commitments under the agreement,” one source familiar with the details said.

Ratcliffe is not alone in expressing concern. According to the report, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have also raised objections during internal administration discussions.

On the other side, Vice President JD Vance, along with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are seen as the leading supporters of moving forward with the agreement.

The White House is trying to project calm despite the internal disagreement. A senior official said Trump is hearing all positions but will make the final decision himself.

According to the official, the understandings reached so far are meant to ensure that Iran cannot possess a nuclear weapon, retain highly enriched uranium or threaten international trade routes.

The next stage of negotiations is expected in the coming days. Vance, Witkoff and Kushner are set to meet this weekend with Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The talks are expected to focus on the future of the negotiations and on a more detailed agreement that could be signed in the coming months if the sides manage to bridge the remaining gaps.

American officials say the next few weeks will be critical. Senior administration figures believe that within two to three weeks, it may become clear whether Iran is truly prepared to make significant concessions or is trying to buy time and gain diplomatic and economic benefits without making real changes to its nuclear program.
