US President Donald Trump said Monday that any agreement with Iran would either be “great and meaningful” or there would be no deal at all, pushing back against criticism from lawmakers over reports that Washington may be considering major concessions.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump attacked Democrats, Republicans he derided as RINOs and other critics who, he said, know nothing about the negotiations.

“I laugh at all of the Dumocrats, RINOS, and Fools who know nothing about the potential deal I am making with Iran, things that haven’t even been negotiated yet,” Trump wrote.

“The deal with Iran will either be a great and meaningful one, or there will be no deal,” he added.

Trump said any agreement would be “the exact opposite” of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which he again described as a disaster negotiated by the Obama administration.

Trump withdrew the United States from the JCPOA in 2018, arguing that it was flawed, temporary and failed to permanently block Iran’s path to nuclear weapons.

His latest comments came after several Republican lawmakers and former senior officials criticized reports about the emerging framework, warning that it could leave Iran’s regime in power, unfreeze large sums of Iranian money and fail to immediately resolve the nuclear issue.

Iranian officials have said nuclear questions are not part of the current preliminary deal and would be addressed in later negotiations. US officials have said Trump remains committed to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and to requiring the removal of enriched uranium from Iranian territory.

Trump has repeatedly said a deal is close, while also warning that the US could resume major strikes on Iran if diplomacy fails.
