Will the protests resume?

Heavy Weapons In Northern Tehran: Basij Deploy Machine-Gun Trucks To Crush Potential Unrest

Iranian security forces and Basij paramilitary units have deployed heavy machine guns and armored patrols in northern Tehran’s Sardar Jangal neighborhood. Authorities reportedly fear that rumors of diplomatic backchannels could ignite a new wave of anti-government protests.

Iranian police and Basij paramilitary units appeared on the streets of northern Tehran’s Sardar Jangal neighborhood Tuesday with heavy machine guns mounted on vehicles, according to videos and photographs posted by local residents and opposition monitors.

Footage circulating on social media and Iranian diaspora channels showed at least one pickup truck equipped with a DShK-style heavy machine gun, along with armed personnel in body armor manning checkpoints and conducting increased patrols in the area. The deployment came as the government grows increasingly concerned that rumors of possible negotiations with the United States could spark spontaneous anti-regime demonstrations.

The move follows Tehran’s public rejection earlier Tuesday of a U.S. cease-fire proposal. Iranian officials have insisted no talks are taking place and have described American overtures as “illogical” and a form of psychological warfare. Hard-line factions worry that any perceived softening could bring crowds back into the streets, echoing the widespread protests that have erupted in recent years over economic hardship and foreign policy setbacks.

No official explanation was given by Iranian authorities for the visible show of force. The government has not commented on the footage, which began spreading within the past several hours on Rubika and other domestic platforms.

The heightened security in Sardar Jangal, a residential district in the capital’s northwest, fits a familiar pattern: whenever the regime senses rising public discontent or diplomatic uncertainty, it floods key urban areas with conspicuous firepower as a deterrent.
