Decapitating the Regime

The American Hammer: Why the Current War is Far Deadlier Than 2025

Comparative data reveals that "Operation Lion’s Roar" has deployed triple the firepower of previous wars, specifically targeting the internal security forces to pave the way for a regime collapse.

As "Operation Roaring Lion" reaches its twelfth day of high-intensity combat, new comparative data has emerged highlighting the staggering scale of the current campaign against the Iranian regime. When measured against "Operation Rising Lion," which took place in June 2025, the current war is characterized by a massive increase in American military involvement, a far higher casualty rate among the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and a strategic shift toward destroying the regime's domestic control mechanisms. While the 2025 war focused primarily on nuclear infrastructure and ended when President Trump halted a final massive air strike, the current operation shows no signs of slowing down. With thousands of munitions dropped and the top tier of the Iranian leadership successfully eliminated, the coalition is now focused on "erasing the foundations" of the Islamic Republic to ensure the regime cannot survive the aftermath of the fighting.

Comparing the Human Toll

The data from the first 12 days of both operations shows a stark difference in casualties on both sides. In the "Operation Rising Lion" war of 2025, 33 civilians and foreigners were killed in Israel, while over 3,500 were injured. In contrast, "Operation Roaring Lion" has seen a lower Israeli civilian death toll of 15, including four children, a foreign citizen, and two soldiers, with 1,200 injured. However, the toll on the Iranian side has grown exponentially. While 1,060 Iranians were killed in 2025, including 30 senior officers and nuclear scientists, the current war has seen over 7,000 Revolutionary Guard members killed. Most notably, the "decapitation" of the regime has been far more extensive this time, with over 40 high-ranking officials eliminated, led by the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei himself.

Unprecedented Firepower and Surprise

The speed and intensity of the current strikes have caught the Iranian regime in a state of total paralysis. In the 2025 "Operation Rising Lion" war, it took 12 days to drop 2,500 munitions on Iranian targets. In the current "Operation Roaring Lion," that same number of bombs was reached in just the first 72 hours. The Air Force has already completed two-thirds of the total sorties flown during the entire 12 days of the previous war in just a fraction of the time. This "ammunition train" strategy is bolstered by the deep integration of the United States military, which has been involved from the opening strike. While the 2025 war was primarily an Israeli effort with American support for nuclear targets, the current campaign is a fully unified front with no clear end date in sight.

Targeting the Foundations of the Regime

The strategic objectives have also evolved significantly between the two operations. The 2025 "Operation Rising Lion" campaign was focused on the nuclear project and the Revolutionary Guard. Today, in "Operation Roaring Lion," the mission is the fundamental destruction of the Iranian state's pillars, including weapons systems, aircraft, naval vessels, defense industries, and, crucially, the internal security headquarters of the Basij. By destroying the command and control centers used to suppress the local population, Israeli and American planners aim to "encourage the day after" demonstrations. A security official noted that after the 2025 war, Iranians took to the streets only to be slaughtered by a regime that still held its internal security intact. Now, by pulverizing those security mechanisms during the war, the coalition believes the potential for a successful uprising and the eventual collapse of the extremist regime has increased significantly.
