Pentagon leak scandal

Report: Pete Hegseth shared attack plans with wife, brother and personal lawyer

The New York Times: U.S. Defense Secretary disclosed classified details of future U.S. strikes in Yemen via Signal; these are the same attack plans he shared that day in another chat with senior Trump administration officials - later revealed by editor of "The Atlantic" magazine, Jeffrey Goldberg.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth sent classified information about March airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen to a second unauthorized Signal group chat that included his wife, brother, and personal attorney - the latest bombshell in what insiders are now calling the Pentagon’s “month from hell,” according to a New York Times report published Sunday.

The sensitive military plans, sent prior to the March 15 operation, reportedly mirrored those Hegseth had earlier shared in a separate chat - one that mistakenly included Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, alongside senior Trump administration national security officials.

Sources familiar with the matter told the Times that the contents of both chats were nearly identical, raising new alarms over the mishandling of classified information at the highest levels of the U.S. defense apparatus. The revelation of a second private thread, this time with personal and familial contacts, has further deepened concerns about internal dysfunction and deteriorating discipline at the Department of Defense.

The group reportedly included Hegseth’s wife Jennifer - a former Fox News personality - who, according to a separate report from the Wall Street Journal, has also participated in sensitive meetings with foreign military figures in recent months. The Times adds that the second chat included detailed schedules of the airstrikes targeting the Iran-backed Houthi militia, which were shared days before the attacks were carried out.

This latest leak comes amid a widening internal investigation into unauthorized disclosures, as three top Pentagon officials have been placed on leave and several of Hegseth’s senior advisors forced out in recent days. The turmoil follows the sudden resignation of former Pentagon spokesperson John Ullyot, who blasted the department’s leadership in a Sunday Politico op-ed, writing, “President Trump deserves a better leader at the helm of the Pentagon.”
