Qatar Military Helicopter Crashes in Territorial Waters: 6 Killed, 1 Missing
The Ministry of Defence confirms six personnel died and one remains missing after a technical malfunction caused a helicopter to crash into the Gulf during a routine mission on Saturday.

A Qatar Emiri Air Force helicopter crashed into the country’s territorial waters in the Gulf after suffering a technical malfunction during a routine mission, the Ministry of Defence confirmed early Sunday.
The incident occurred yesterday (Saturday). In an official statement posted on X, the Ministry said:“A Qatari helicopter had a technical malfunction during a routine duty, which led to its crash in the regional waters of the State. Searching operation for its crew members and passengers is in progress.”
Qatar’s Interior Ministry later updated that seven people were on board: Six personnel have been confirmed killed, with their bodies recovered. One person remains missing, and intensive search-and-rescue efforts continue.
Specialised teams from the Maritime Search and Rescue Unit of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, together with the Qatar International Search and Rescue Group of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), are leading the operation at the scene.
No names of the victims, ranks, or the exact type/model of the helicopter have been released yet.
There is no indication of hostile action, drone involvement, sabotage, or external interference.
The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions, including Iran’s recent long-range missile demonstration against Diego Garcia and the arrival of British submarine HMS Anson in the Arabian Sea. However, Qatari officials have not linked the crash to any geopolitical factors.
An investigation into the precise cause of the mechanical failure is expected once the search concludes and the wreckage is recovered.
