Israel-Gaza War, The Hague

Israel Defends Itself Against the "Genocide" Blood Libel

Today, Israel presents its arguments in defense of the country against absurd charges of genocide.

After South Africa presented its arguments that Israel is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, Israel now has the chance to refute their legal and evidentiary arguments today.

The order of speakers for Israel’s defense team is expected to be: Dr. Tal Becker, then Professor Malcolm Shaw, Dr. Galit Rejuan, Dr. Omri Sander, Dr. Christopher Striker, and Dr. Gil-ad Noam.

The defense has focused on the importance of words such as genocide not being infinitely elastic and certainly not an adjective for the intensity of fighting in war, on Israel defending itself against a barbaric and unprovoked attack, and the fact that Israel has taken many steps to ensure the safety and well-being of Palestinian civilians.

They also argued that the fact that some soldiers or MKs make reckless or extreme statements matters only if the soldiers act on those impulses, in which case the Israeli legal system can handle it, or if the MKs have an influence on actual war policy, which they do not.
