Spain has announced that it will also recognize a Palestinian state, after Norway and Ireland previously declared plans to do so.

The government of Spain announced that it would formally recognize a Palestinian state as part of an effort by a number of European countries to pressure Israel and lead to the actual establishment of a Palestinian state.

The Spanish government announced that it would formally recognize the existence of a Palestinian state next week on May 28.

According to a number of reports, Prime Minister Sanchez was a prime mover of this effort, applying significant pressure to a number of leaders and countries in the hopes of bringing other European countries on board this anti-Israel effort.
