Biden: Palestinian statehood won't be achieved against Israel's wishes

The White House reacted to the decision of Spain, Ireland and Norway to recognize a Palestinian state with the spokesman for the National Security Council saying that President Biden, "believes that the issue should only be resolved through negotiations, and not by a unilateral decision."

The spokesman for the National Security Council of the White House, John Kirby, responded yesterday (Wednesday) to the decision of Spain, Ireland and Norway to recognize a Palestinian state. Kirby said that US President Joe Biden opposes unilateral recognition of Palestine.

According to Kirby, "President Biden believes that the issue of Palestinian statehood should only be resolved through negotiations, and not through a unilateral decision."

Yesterday, Spain, Norway and Ireland announced that they will officially recognize the existence of a Palestinian state on May 28. According to several reports, Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez was one of the leaders of the initiative, exerting significant pressure on a number of EU states in the hope of adding more European countries to the anti-Israel movement.

In response, Foreign Minister Israel Katz vowed to reprimand ambassadors from these countries, insisting that they watch the video of Hamas terrorists abducting female Israeli soldiers on October 7.
