Did the 2001 September attacks involve controlled demolition?
Senator demands new 9/11 probe: Is the Government hiding the truth?
A prominent U.S. senator is calling for a fresh investigation into the events of 9/11, questioning the official government narrative and sparking renewed public debate. His remarks have revived longstanding scepticism and conspiracy theories nearly 25 years after the attacks.

Nearly a quarter-century after the September 11 attacks, Republican Senator Ron Johnson is calling for a renewed congressional investigation into the events of that tragic day, reigniting debate and controversy over long-settled facts. As chair of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, Johnson is now leveraging his position to pursue documents and information that could lead to formal hearings on elements of the 2001 attacks.
According to a spokesperson for the senator, Johnson is particularly focused on discrepancies he believes exist in the government's official explanation. His announcement followed an appearance on a podcast hosted by conservative commentator Benny Johnson, where he openly cast doubt on the conclusions reached by federal investigations, especially regarding the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7.
During the interview, Johnson referenced theories advanced in a fringe documentary that claims Building 7 was not felled by fire and debris, as concluded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), but instead brought down through a controlled demolition. Johnson described the official narrative as “corrupted,” suggesting that key facts about the collapse were intentionally withheld or distorted.
“My guess is there’s an awful lot being covered up in terms of what the American government knows about 9/11,” the senator stated during the podcast. He also linked this skepticism to a broader pattern of what he views as government secrecy, saying, “That’s how they keep things covered up,” in reference to being labeled a conspiracy theorist.
While the theory about Building 7 has been thoroughly debunked by structural engineers, architects, and multiple investigations, including the 9/11 Commission, Johnson’s remarks have struck a chord with a segment of the public still questioning the official account.
His push for hearings may gain traction among other lawmakers skeptical of government transparency, but it also risks fuelling misinformation surrounding one of the most heavily investigated events in American history. Whether Johnson’s proposed inquiry moves forward remains to be seen, but the call has already reignited a controversial national conversation.
