Meghan Markle gets very real in new podcast episode

Meghan Markle has been accused of being fake and pretentious. Is this podcast a part of her efforts to rehabilitate her image?

In the latest episode of her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, released yesterday (Tuesday), Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, shared intimate details about her life as a mother and her emotional journey following a miscarriage. The 43-year-old former Suits actress spoke candidly with Reshma Saujani, founder of Girls Who Code and Moms First, about balancing work, health, and family, while also addressing the challenges of parenting during her children's recent illnesses.

Meghan revealed that her two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, have been recovering from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza A, respectively. “My kids right now, one has RSV, the other has influenza A. I hear a little pitter-patter of feet from home from school, you know, cough syrup all night and rubbing the back,” she said.

Despite the demands of caring for her sick children, Meghan emphasized her commitment to showing up for both her family and her professional responsibilities. “We still find a way to show up for both,” she noted, adding that honesty about the challenges of parenting is key to inspiring the next generation. “I’m showing up for you in my sweatshirt today because I’ve been up all night with my babies, but I’m still going to be able to show up for both because both matter.”

The conversation took a deeply personal turn when Meghan discussed her experience with miscarriage, a topic she first addressed publicly in a 2020 New York Times essay. Recalling the loss of her second child in July 2020, after feeling a “sharp cramp” while changing Archie’s diaper, Meghan described the heartbreak she and Prince Harry endured. “I watched my husband’s heart break as he tried to hold the shattered pieces of mine,” she wrote at the time.

In the podcast, she likened the emotional process of coping with miscarriage to letting go of a business venture. “You have to learn to detach from the thing that you have so much promise and hope for, and to be able to be okay at a certain point to let something go, something that you planned to love for a long time,” she told Saujani, who has also experienced miscarriages. Saujani responded, “I feel like you’re reading my diary, that’s really insightful.”

The episode also sparked controversy due to Meghan’s recent Instagram post, where she republished a letter from Ukraine’s First Vice Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, addressing her and Prince Harry as “Your Royal Highness.” The use of the title, which the couple agreed not to use after stepping back from royal duties in 2020, has drawn criticism.

Posts on X and media reports, including comments from To Di For podcast host Kinsey Schofield on Sky News Australia, labeled the move “disrespectful to Queen Elizabeth II’s memory.” Schofield suggested that Prince William is keen to strip the Sussexes of their titles, citing their commercial interests. However, the couple has not formally surrendered their HRH titles, leading to ongoing debate about their use.

Meghan’s podcast, produced by Lemonada Media, is part of a busy period for the Duchess, who recently launched her lifestyle brand As Ever and starred in the Netflix series With Love, Meghan. The second episode of Confessions of a Female Founder highlights her focus on female entrepreneurship, with discussions on redesigning workplaces for women and prioritizing health over work.

Despite facing scrutiny, Meghan continues to share her personal and professional journey, resonating with listeners through her vulnerability and resilience.
