German public service broadcaster ZDF has been forced to suspend its decades-long cooperation with Palestinian partner organization Palestine Media Production (PMP) after confirming a PMP employee recently killed in Gaza was, in fact, an active Hamas terrorist.

The admission came on Monday, following the presentation of compelling evidence by Israeli authorities to the German news organization. The incident has intensified global scrutiny on the operations of foreign media outlets within the Gaza Strip and raised serious questions about the infiltration of journalistic support structures by terrorist groups.

Israel Provides 'Irrefutable' Evidence

The individual in question, a 37-year-old engineer who worked for PMP, was killed less than two weeks ago in an airstrike in Deir al-Balah, along with the 8-year-old son of a colleague. A source indicated to the German newspaper Bild that the engineer had been the specific target of the strike.

ZDF confirmed that the Israeli military provided documents proving the engineer’s membership in the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas.

"ZDF welcomes the fact that the Israeli army has complied with the request to clarify the identity of the killed employee of the production company PMP in Gaza," the broadcaster stated.

Cooperation Immediately Halted

Based on the documentation provided by Israel, ZDF moved swiftly to sever ties with its long-time Palestinian service provider.

“Based on the documents, ZDF assumes that the engineer was a member of the Qassam Brigades... In response, ZDF has suspended cooperation until further notice,” the statement read.

While confirming the membership, the broadcaster noted the evidence did not detail the nature of the engineer’s work for Hamas or the timing of his involvement. Crucially, ZDF also stressed that it had received no information from the IDF to suggest that any other PMP employees were also members of Hamas.

The revelation immediately drew a sharp response from the Israeli Foreign Ministry, which suggested the incident underscored a broader issue of Hamas's systematic embedding within media operations.

In a direct post to X/Twitter, the Ministry declared: "Hamas doesn’t merely benefit from supportive journalism. It implants [its] own people in foreign media operations."

The statement continued with an accusation aimed at foreign audiences:

"You’re being fed Hamas ideology on the front pages of your media."

The exposure of a military operative operating under the guise of a media support role highlights the severe risks faced by international news organizations covering the conflict and is expected to prompt an internal review of vetting processes across global media bureaus operating in high-risk zones.
