TRAGEDY IN MANHATTAN: Beloved Security Guard and Hospital Worker Killed

A horrifying traffic disaster shook Manhattan over the weekend when a vehicle careened onto a crowded sidewalk in the Morningside Heights neighborhood, leaving two dead and three others critically injured. The incident took an even more tragic turn following NYPD investigations into the suspected drunk driving crash, which revealed that the driver was a lifelong childhood friend of the victims who lived just two blocks from the scene.

According to a New York Post report published Sunday, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 6:00 PM. Just minutes prior, one of the deceased, 35-year-old Michael Saint-Hilaire, had sent a text message to his mother, who was traveling by bus, letting her know he was waiting for her at the stop.

Saint-Hilaire’s uncle noted that the mother had spoken to her son on the phone less than seven minutes before the disaster, during which he promised he was waiting at the designated meeting point. Moments later, the vehicle lost control, mounted the curb, and plowed into the pedestrians gathered on the sidewalk.

Saint-Hilaire was killed instantly. He leaves behind two-year-old triplets, a daughter and two sons, who are scheduled to celebrate their second birthday later this month. His family noted that he worked in an operating room at a local hospital and had spent the last year trying to join the NYPD. His grandmother, who considered him her favorite grandson, had tearfully begged him not to join the police force out of fear for his safety. His uncle expressed intense anger and frustration toward the driver, calling the act a reckless decision that cut short the life of a dedicated family man.

The second fatality was identified as Jason, 46, who worked as a security guard at a luxury residential building on nearby 110th Street. A well-known and beloved figure in the community, Jason had finished his shift at 4:00 PM and was spending time on the sidewalk with friends when the vehicle struck. His coworkers expressed complete shock at the news, and a floral arrangement with a farewell note was placed in the building's lobby. His family declined to speak to media outlets at the scene.

The driver was injured in the crash and evacuated by rescue personnel. He was immediately arrested by police officers on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and aggravated criminally negligent homicide.
