As Israel hears warnings of a possible Iranian attack before its elections, US President Donald Trump addressed the confrontation with Iran on Tuesday, and expressed optimism that it is nearing its end. Speaking at an event launching a new website for the American administration, Trump repeated his commitment that Iran will not obtain a nuclear weapon, and claimed oil prices will fall in the near term.
"This Iran thing is going to be over very soon. They're failing, and they're in total collapse," Trump said. "They will not have a nuclear weapon, and oil prices are going to come down soon. They're going to go back to the price they were at before I had to make this little foray into the Islamic Republic of Iran."
Asked about the achievements of the campaign against Iran, Trump said the significance of the move will only become clear with historical perspective. "I think in the years to come, books will be written that will tell the history of our country, and they will say this was one of the most important things we did," he said.
