Israeli defense agencies, in coordination with Saudi Arabian and United Arab Emirates authorities, have opened an investigation into a failed hijacking and stabbing attack aboard a FlyDubai flight bound for Tel Aviv.

Initial findings from the interrogation of the Omani copilot in Saudi Arabia indicate that the individual acted with deliberate intent to carry out a nationalist attack. Investigators found evidence suggesting the copilot underwent a rapid process of religious radicalization over the past year and chose to act independently. The copilot reportedly attacked the captain during the flight, causing injuries before being subdued by crew and passengers.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that intelligence reports show the suspect experienced radicalization over the course of 12 months. Shin Bet and Mossad are actively evaluating whether the assailant operated strictly as a lone actor or on behalf of an established terror group. Current assessments lean toward an independent action, with diminishing indications of direct Iranian involvement, though defense officials have not ruled out any possibilities.

The incident has raised significant concerns within Israel regarding oversight mechanisms at the Ministry of Transportation, headed by Minister Miri Regev. Security establishment officials are evaluating the aviation agreements with the United Arab Emirates and the performance of the Aviation Security Operations Center, which monitors incoming foreign aircrews. Preliminary assessments suggest severe supervisory deficiencies allowed the foreign crew member to board without adequate vetting.

Emirati officials expressed dissatisfaction over definitive statements labeling the event a nationalist attack before the full completion of the joint inquiry. The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior confirmed that both the suspect and the injured captain were transferred to UAE custody for further medical treatment and interrogation. Meanwhile, Israeli intelligence continues working to verify if additional security protocols were breached prior to takeoff.

"The United Arab Emirates maintains open and direct lines of communication with Israel and shares all relevant intelligence through established channels," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates stated in an official release, as reported by REUTERS.

Defense officials emphasized the need to resolve aviation security loopholes quickly to protect ongoing travel corridors between Israel and the Gulf states. Shin Bet leadership had previously raised concerns regarding lax screening procedures at foreign hubs, advocating for stricter checks on foreign crew members operating commercial flights into Israeli airspace. Investigation efforts remain active across all three participating nations.
