The Biddeford, Maine office of Republican Senator Susan Collins was vandalized for the second time in a month, with unknown individuals pouring red paint at the building's entrance and spray-painting "blood on your hands" on the pavement outside. Police have opened an investigation.
Katie Brown, Collins's chief of staff, said the incident was another attempt to intimidate the senator and her team. "These tactics are disturbing, but they are not effective. Our staff is undeterred and continues its work," she said.
The office is located near the site of a July shooting in which a 26-year-old Colombian national, Johan Sebastian Guevara, was killed by an immigration officer. Days after that incident, protesters broke into the office and called for Collins to be impeached.
Troy Jackson, the Democratic candidate running against Collins in the Senate race, condemned the vandalism and said it has no place in Maine. Collins and her staff should be able to do their work without their offices being vandalized, he said.
Biddeford police are investigating the incident, according to Collins's campaign.
