The major hostage agreement, brokered by the US and set to secure the release of an initial 20 living captives, has dominated global headlines. However, press coverage is consistently framing the breakthrough as a direct achievement of US President Donald Trump, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu receiving minimal mention and, in some cases, outright criticism.

The near-universal attribution of success to President Trump strongly signals that he expects to receive the Nobel Peace Prize this Friday, following the culmination of the deal.

"First Step to Peace": Trump Takes Center Stage

Across major international news outlets, the focus remains firmly on the US President and the humanitarian aspect of the truce. The BBC reported the main headline:

“Trump says Israel and Hamas agreed to first phase of Gaza peace deal, leading to ceasefire.”

The Associated Press (AP) called the deal the biggest breakthrough in the two-year war, noting that despite complex remaining issues, such as who will control Gaza and the disarmament of Hamas, the parties are "close to agreements."

Netanyahu Marginalized and Criticized

In a pointed contrast to the widespread praise for Trump, certain major publications either minimized Netanyahu's role or suggested he was an obstacle to be overcome. The New York Times, for example, ran a sharply critical headline, stating: "Netanyahu was on a political high, President Trump reined him in."

In a rare exception, Germany’s Bild, an explicitly pro-Israel paper, focused on the emotional domestic impact by quoting the news of the deal alongside a celebratory image of hostage family member Einav Tzengaoker: “This is the moment that touches millions of hearts.”

Global Leaders Applaud, Credit Trump

Leaders worldwide offered congratulations, underscoring Trump's central diplomatic role. French President Emmanuel Macron praised the deal as a

"great hope for the hostages and their families, for Palestinians in Gaza, and for the entire region," specifically commending the efforts of "President Donald Trump, as well as the Qatari, Egyptian, and Turkish mediators."

UK Opposition Leader Keir Starmer called the moment one of "immense relief" that "must be implemented without delay." Dutch Right-wing Leader Geert Wilders wrote that "everyone benefits from peace." Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the few to explicitly mention the Israeli leader, stating: "We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump's peace plan. This also reflects the strong leadership of Prime Minister Netanyahu."

The consistent global narrative emphasizes the agreement as a bold diplomatic success for the American administration, setting the stage for a dramatic political reward for President Trump.
