The ambassador has drawn particular ire for his characterization of the Golan Heights as "territory historically recognized in international resolutions as belonging to Syria", a statement that contradicts President Trump's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the strategic plateau during his first term. Loomer reports that this comment generated considerable anger within the White House in recent weeks.
State Department officials go further, according to Loomer's sources, pointing to Barrack as a factor in Israel's recent strike on a northern Syrian base where Turkey had attempted to establish a presence. The understanding within the White House, these sources say, is that he gave Israel the impression it would not receive a sympathetic hearing on Turkish-related concerns, pushing Jerusalem to act unilaterally on the matter.
Administration figures believe Barrack "doesn't understand or doesn't want to understand President Trump's policy for the region," Loomer reports. Active discussions are underway regarding the possibility of recalling him to the United States and removing him from the sensitive diplomatic posting.
