Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett issued a blistering critique on Sunday regarding a recent collection of quotes regarding the actions Benjamin Netanyahu "tried taking" to prevent October 7th, published by the Prime Minister.

Bennett argued that the document which intended to defend the Prime Minister’s record actually serves instead as a self indictment of a leader who remained passive during critical historical moments.

The Forrest Gump Comparison

Bennett utilized a cinematic metaphor to describe Netanyahu’s portrayal in the document. He stated that like the movie character Forrest Gump Netanyahu appears as a passive observer of major historical events. Bennett characterized the Prime Minister as a figure who was present during significant developments but lacked the agency to lead or influence them. He described Netanyahu as a leader who was led by his subordinates rather than one who commanded the security establishment.

Security Failures And The Rise Of Hamas

The former Prime Minister emphasized that the 56 page document highlights a pattern of hesitation. Bennett claimed that while Netanyahu might have made occasional statements for the record he failed to take decisive action against growing threats. He specifically pointed to the growth of Hezbollah in the north and Hamas in the south as evidence of failed leadership. Bennett accused Netanyahu of becoming addicted to a policy of containment and criticized the transfer of Qatari cash to Hamas as a form of protection payments.

A Call For New Leadership

Bennett concluded his statement by calling for a change in national leadership after three decades of Netanyahu’s influence in Israeli politics. He argued that the document proves Netanyahu did not manage or lead the nation during the years leading up to the country's greatest security disaster. Bennett stated that the public deserves a strong national leader and suggested it is time for the Prime Minister to step aside with dignity.
