“We Must Do Everything We Can”: Greta Thunberg Vows to Fight On

Greta Thunberg: “We Were Treated Badly” During Israeli Detention After Gaza Flotilla

Greta Thunberg’s detention by Israeli forces after attempting to breach Gaza’s blockade has sparked allegations of mistreatment, including claims of sleep deprivation tactics. The incident highlights the growing wave of antisemitic rhetoric among activists who promote pro-Palestinian narratives while ignoring Hamas’s role in the conflict.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has returned to Sweden following her detention and deportation from Israel after participating in an attempted flotilla to Gaza, which was intercepted by the Israeli Navy earlier this week. The vessel, carrying 12 foreign activists, aimed to breach Israel’s legal naval blockade on the Hamas-controlled coastal enclave, an effort the Israeli government views as provocative and dangerous.

Among those on board were public figures including Thunberg, “Game of Thrones” actor Liam Cunningham, and French MEP Rima Hassan, all of whom have made recent headlines for their vocal support of Palestinian causes. The ship was intercepted near Ashdod by Israel’s elite Shayetet 13 naval unit and towed to port without incident.

In a press conference after her return to Sweden, Thunberg criticized Israeli authorities, saying, “We were treated badly. I’m just desperate to shower and sleep.” She added, “It’s absolutely clear that we won’t stop here. We must do everything we can, every day, because that’s the promise we made to the Palestinians.”

These statements have drawn backlash in Israel, where officials and commentators are increasingly frustrated by what they describe as a growing trend of global celebrities promoting one-sided, uninformed narratives. “These so-called activists ignore the reality on the ground,” said one Israeli source. “The blockade exists to prevent weapons from reaching Hamas, a terrorist organization responsible for launching rockets at Israeli civilians.”

Reports from pro-Palestinian outlets claimed Thunberg was “abused” during her brief time in Israeli custody, including being kept awake with children’s music, a claim Israeli officials have dismissed as absurd and unserious.

Critics in Israel have noted that figures like Thunberg and others often fail to speak out against Hamas’ use of human shields, oppression of women and minorities in Gaza, or its genocidal rhetoric toward Jews. “It’s trendy to be ‘pro-Palestinian,’ but many of these influencers are just spreading Hamas talking points while ignoring the suffering of Israelis and Palestinians alike,” one commentator said.

The Foreign Ministry also released an image of Thunberg in a shirt bearing the PLO flag, calling it a clear political statement that undermines her claim to neutral humanitarian activism.
