The explosion generated seismic waves powerful enough to be felt throughout the Galilee region and as far as the Golan Heights. Defense establishment sources emphasized that Israel's national seismic monitoring system was actively tracking the event, and no earthquake alerts would be activated despite the magnitude of the blast.

Advance Warnings Issued to Northern Communities

Kiryat Shmona Mayor Avichai Stern addressed residents in a video message hours before the detonation, clarifying that the operation was planned and deliberate. "In the coming hours, Northern Command will execute a controlled explosion of a large weapons infrastructure discovered in the northern area of Lebanese territory during the war," Stern stated.

The mayor outlined specific protective measures for residents: "Avoid staying near windows, balconies, and exposed areas that could pose a risk due to blast waves and shrapnel. It is recommended to open windows to prevent damage from the pressure wave. Maintain composure, avoid gathering or approaching areas of interest, and remain alert."

Communities adjacent to the blast zone received specialized defensive instructions, while the broader northern region was notified that the explosion's reverberations might trigger independent earthquake detection systems installed in schools and private facilities. The Upper Galilee Regional Council similarly briefed residents about the operation, noting that while the national seismic system would not activate alerts, private monitoring systems might respond to the blast.

Hezbollah Violations Complicate Security Picture

The tunnel demolition occurred against a backdrop of escalating Hezbollah provocations along the northern border. Earlier in the day, the terrorist organization launched a suicide drone toward IDF forces operating south of the forward defense line. The explosive-laden UAV detonated in close proximity to Israeli soldiers, though military officials confirmed no casualties resulted from the attack.

That incident marked the second ceasefire violation within hours. The Israeli Air Force had successfully intercepted another hostile aircraft targeting IDF troops in southern Lebanon earlier Monday. Because neither threat crossed into sovereign Israeli territory, home-front sirens were not activated in accordance with standard protocols.

Following the drone attacks, sirens sounded in Arab al-Aramshe and surrounding communities at 7:40 AM, precisely when children were being transported to school. The timing prompted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cancel scheduled court testimony, citing urgent security consultations with defense officials regarding the deteriorating situation.

The destruction of the Lebanese tunnel represents part of a broader IDF strategy to dismantle terror organizations' subterranean capabilities across multiple fronts. In northern Gaza, the Northern Brigade and elite Yahalom combat engineering unit have demolished approximately 14 kilometers of Hamas tunnel infrastructure east of the Yellow Line buffer zone, particularly around Beit Hanoun.

Military officials emphasized that the Lebanese tunnel network did not penetrate Israeli territory, distinguishing it from previous cross-border infiltration routes discovered during earlier conflicts. The infrastructure's extensive length and sophisticated construction underscored Hezbollah's long-term investment in underground warfare capabilities, mirroring tactics employed by Hamas in Gaza.

Defense establishment sources indicated that no changes to general defensive guidelines were warranted by the controlled demolition.
