According to emerging reports and local sources in Iraqi Kurdistan, Israel and the United States may be paving the way for a ground incursion into Iran, bolstered by local Kurdish "Peshmerga" forces and anti-regime militias.

The Trump Doctrine: Militias as Boots on the Ground

The speculation intensified following reports in the Wall Street Journal suggesting that U.S. President Donald Trump is "open" to supporting armed groups within Iran. The strategy appears to favor leveraging domestic dissent and ethnic minorities to destabilize the Islamic Republic from within.

Sources indicate that Trump has already engaged in discussions with Iranian Kurdish leaders. The goal? To transform these factions into a functional ground force that could seize territory and challenge Tehran’s grip on power as the central government weakens under the weight of external strikes.

"Operation Lion's Roar" and the Western Front

While Israel’s air campaign has dominated the headlines, British outlet ITV reports that the true objective of recent precision strikes in Western Iran is tactical "softening." By degrading Iranian air defenses and communication hubs near the border, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) is reportedly clearing a path for thousands of armed Kurdish volunteers.

According to these reports:

"It seems Israel could easily launch a ground attack from Iraqi Kurdistan with the support of the Iranian Kurdish Peshmerga," a source in Erbil told Ynet.

The anticipation of a ground shift has turned the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) into a primary target. Tehran has responded to the threat by intensifying drone and missile strikes against Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.

Tragically, these retaliatory strikes have hit civilian residential areas. Reports from the ground describe Iranian missiles striking housing complexes belonging to the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI). While many fighters had already vacated, the structures were occupied by women and children. "The situation is normal on the surface, but people are holding their breath for war," noted a local resident.

The prospect of an invasion via Iraqi soil has placed Baghdad in an impossible position. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani asserted today that only the state has the right to decide on "war and peace," vowing to protect foreign missions and prevent Iraq from being dragged into the crossfire.

Meanwhile, pro-Iranian militias in Iraq, have issued stern warnings. They claim the U.S. is preparing to strike Iran from Syria through the Kurdish corridor and have warned Kurdish authorities not to engage in a "military adventure" that could lead to their destruction.
