Libyan Prime Minister Al-Dbeibeh decided to suspend Foreign Minister Najla El Mangoush, following her secret meeting with Foreign Minister Eli Cohen in Italy.

In addition, according to media in the country, Al-Dbeibeh ordered El Mangoush to be transferred for questioning. Following the drama, the Libyan Foreign Ministry is trying to deny that a meeting was held between the two, saying that it was a random meeting during a meeting with the Italian Foreign Minister.

As mentioned, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen met last week in Italy with the Foreign Minister of Libya Najla El Mangoush. This is the first ever meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries, with the aim of examining possibilities for cooperation and connection between the countries and the preservation of the heritage of Libyan Jewry.

Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said after the meeting: "The historic meeting with the Foreign Minister of Libya, Najla El Mangoush, is a first step in the relationship between Israel and Libya. The size and strategic location of Libya give ties with it enormous importance and enormous potential for the State of Israel."

Cohen said: "I spoke with the foreign minister about the great potential for the two countries from their relations, as well as the importance of preserving the heritage of Libyan Jewry, which includes the renovation of synagogues and Jewish cemeteries in the country. I thank the Italian foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, for hosting the historic meeting in Rome. We are working with a series of countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia with the aim of expanding the circle of peace and normalization of Israel."
