The Ministry of Economy continues the special inspection for the period of the Tishrei holidays, and now the Ministry of Economy announces which chain has the cheapest shopping basket for the rest of the holidays.

The Ministry of Economy has compared recommended shopping baskets for the holidays across all major retail and supermarket chains. In a comparison conducted among 37 nationwide retail chains and various consumer websites, the Ministry found differences of hundreds of percentage points in identical products between chains, resulting in an overall price gap of over 880 shekels between the cheapest and most expensive chains.

The Ministry examined a shopping basket composed of 165 food products and other popular items selected by the Central Bureau of Statistics as essential components of consumers' holiday shopping. They collected this information to benefit consumers by providing the lowest price for the basket.

In the examination, it was found that in comparison to the tests conducted before the Jewish New Year, 34 out of the 37 tested chains raised prices on many products. Only two chains reduced their shopping baskets: the Machsanei HaShuk chain and the Rami Levy Internet chain. In contrast, the Victory chain increased the price of its shopping basket by over 130 shekels compared to the last examination.

Additionally, the Ministry of Economy compared the cheapest shopping basket to the most expensive one and found a difference of over 34%, equivalent to 880 shekels in price gap. The most expensive chain examined was Tiv Taam Ba'ir, which, despite not having costs for supervision and kosher certification, presented the highest-priced basket with a significant margin. In contrast, chains like Rami Levy and Rami Levy Online offered significantly cheaper baskets while still dealing with certification costs.
