The strategic calculus behind President Donald Trump's decision to extend the ceasefire with Iran has been revealed, according to reports from Channel 12 News. The brief window granted to Tehran's leadership is not arbitrary, it corresponds precisely with the estimated arrival time of the third American aircraft carrier to the Middle East theater.

The USS George H.W. Bush is currently making its way to the region accompanied by additional task force elements, and is expected to complete its deployment within days. Its arrival will mark the completion of an unprecedented concentration of American naval power: three aircraft carriers operating simultaneously in the Middle East, providing Washington with overwhelming response capabilities should diplomatic negotiations collapse and Iran choose escalation.

Massive Naval Buildup Nears Completion

The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world's largest aircraft carrier, recently transited the Suez Canal with escort destroyers USS Mahan and USS Winston S. Churchill and is now operating in the Red Sea. The carrier joins the USS Abraham Lincoln already stationed in the region, while the USS George H.W. Bush continues its approach.

Defense officials have confirmed that the Ford has set a new record for continuous deployment, surpassing 295 consecutive days at sea, the longest carrier deployment since the Vietnam War. The vessel was initially deployed to the Caribbean in November 2025 before being redirected to the Middle East in February ahead of the conflict with Iran.

Parallel to the naval buildup, open-source intelligence trackers have reported significantly increased activity of U.S. Air Force refueling aircraft, including KC-135 Stratotankers and KC-46A Pegasus tankers. This aerial refueling surge indicates preparation for sustained air operations across the theater.

Israel Intensifies Security Preparations

In Jerusalem, officials are closely monitoring American force movements and messages emanating from Washington. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to convene a series of sensitive security consultations with Israel's defense establishment leadership today (Thursday) and in the coming days.

The consultations aim to strengthen Israel's readiness for all scenarios, with particular emphasis on close coordination with the American administration. Israeli officials understand that the "grace period" Trump granted Iran serves to test Tehran's seriousness one final time, while simultaneously preparing the military infrastructure for renewed strikes should Iran fail to present a unified and substantive proposal.

According to Channel 12 News, the Iranian leadership is currently experiencing a "deep and difficult rift" following the scale of destruction inflicted during recent operations. One faction within the regime is advocating for immediate compromise to preserve remaining state infrastructure, while hardliners are pushing for total renewal of hostilities, refusing to yield to international pressure.
