United States President Donald Trump has announced an extension to the ceasefire in the war with Iran, stating that American military forces will hold off on planned attacks until the Iranian leadership can present a unified proposal to end the war. The decision, announced on Tuesday, follows a direct request from Pakistani mediators, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. President Trump noted that the Iranian government currently appears seriously fractured, a condition he described as not entirely unexpected.

In a post on Truth Social, the President stated that he has directed the U.S. military to maintain the naval blockade of Iran and to remain fully prepared for combat operations in all other respects. This extension is not indefinite, as the President emphasized that it will last until such time as a proposal is submitted and discussions are concluded, one way or the other. The President had previously signaled skepticism about extending the deadline, but opted for this shift to allow Pakistani diplomatic efforts the space to potentially produce a breakthrough. Despite the pause in major military strikes, the administration remains firm that the economic and military pressure on the regime will continue until a satisfactory agreement is reached.
