This isn't "decency," Piers. This is the lazy, ratings-chasing both-sides-ism of a man who's spent years positioning himself as the brave truth-teller while peddling the same tired equivocations that have poisoned discourse since day one.
This we know for sure- A new independent Civil Commission report has confirmed what eyewitnesses, pathologists, and even some initial deniers have long known, Hamas made sexual violence an integral, strategic weapon of their pogrom. Gang rapes, forced nudity, postmortem abuse, filming the horrors for propaganda. Children targeted. Families tortured together. This wasn't "resistance." It was barbarism with a manifesto.
And Piers' instinct? Rush to platform "reports" of alleged Israeli abuse against Palestinian detainees as if they form some grand moral symmetry. Because nothing says "basic human decency" like demanding we treat the deliberate mass rape of civilians as just another data point in the great ledger of conflict.
Where was this pearl-clutching moral philosopher when the denialism machine was in full swing, when UN officials, feminists, and Ivy League activists spent months claiming the rapes were "unverified" or Zionist propaganda? Piers loves to play the centrist now that the evidence is overwhelming, but his reflexive need to "both sides" the most one-sided act of genocidal savagery in modern times exposes the hollowness.
This is the same Piers who built a brand yelling at guests and demanding accountability, except when it comes to holding Islamist terrorists to the same standard. Instead, he lectures the rest of us about "smearing" while his show amplifies narratives that dilute the unique horror of October 7. Torture "doesn't work," he intones, as if Israel's fight for survival against an enemy that embeds among civilians and uses hostages as human shields is the real scandal.
Spare us, Piers. Seriously. Basic human decency isn't pretending there's equivalence between rapists who glorify death and a nation defending itself after the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. Decency is calling evil by its name without the asterisk, the caveat, or the YouTube clickbait segment titled "Explosive Reports on Both Sides!"
Anyone who suspected where Piers truly stands regarding Jews and Israel now knows for sure.
