Israeli sports are greatly affected by the war, in the break that was and then again with no audience at the beginning and the limited audience afterwards. The running industry is also affected. Today (Wednesday) the management of the Tiberias Marathon announced that, in the shadow of the war, the 46th marathon, which has already been postponed for two weeks, will be postponed until next year to January 23, 2025. Tiberias Municipality: "The well-being and safety of the thousands of marathon runners and the various stages is more important than any event, no matter how big.

The decision to this effect was made at a professional meeting that took place today between the Mayor of Tiberias Boaz Yosef, the CEO of the Municipality Shimon Finian, the CEO of the Israel Marathon Ofer Padan and other professionals. About a month ago it was decided to postpone the marathon for two weeks, but in light of the assessment of the situation and the opinion of the Home Front command staff it was decided that due to the tensions and fighting on the northern border, it was decided not to allow the holding of the great sports event of the north, in which about 10,000 runners were supposed to participate in the various ends.

Along with the postponement of the 46th marathon to January 2025, the management of the marathon decided to produce diverse activities on the subject of the marathon throughout the year 2024, in which runners and residents of the city will take part, all this with the aim of continuing to raise awareness of sports activities alongside the name of the oldest and most professional marathon in Israel, which also serves as the Israeli championship.

The Tiberias Municipality stated: "We apologize for the decision that was imposed on us due to the security situation at the northern border. The safety and security of the thousands of marathon runners is more important than any event, no matter how big. We thank the thousands of runners who registered ahead of time and who prepared and trained to run in the 46th Winner Tiberias Marathon. In a year we will continue the tradition."
