American streaming giant Netflix announced Wednesday that it has acquired broadcast rights for the 2030 World Cup in Spain and Andorra. It is the first time the subscription-based streaming platform will carry the men's football World Cup.
In an official statement, the company said: "We will offer all 104 matches of the world's biggest football competition in live broadcast." Netflix subscribers in Spain and Andorra will be able to watch every match of the tournament through the streaming service.
Not all matches will require a paid subscription. Under the agreement, one match on each matchday will be available to watch free in Spain. In addition, all of Spain's matches and the final will also be broadcast on free-to-air television channels, without requiring a Netflix subscription.
