Belgium winger Jeremy Doku received special permission to leave the team's base in Seattle on Tuesday to be with his wife in London for the birth of their first child, the Belgian Football Association confirmed.
Doku and his wife welcomed a son named Praise. The federation confirmed Doku traveled accompanied by a team doctor and with full approval of the squad's medical and coaching staff.
"Congratulations to Jeremy Doku and his family on the birth of their first son, Praise," the official statement read. "With the approval of and accompanied by one of our team doctors, Jeremy travelled to London to be with his wife for this unique occasion."
Doku is expected to rejoin the Belgian squad Wednesday evening in Seattle as Belgium continues preparations for their upcoming World Cup group stage match against New Zealand.
