Massive Attack Sparks Uproar Over Sinwar
Massive Attack Crosses the Line: Hamas Terror Video Shown at UK Concert | WATCH
Massive Attack under fire for showing Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar during UK performance. Critics slam band for “glorifying terror” in anti-Israel montage.

During their performance at the Lido Festival near Manchester, British band Massive Attack displayed a video of Yahya Sinwar and his family in a Hamas tunnel, part of an anti-Israel collage titled Open the Doors to the Merchants of Death. The footage, originally released by the IDF in 2023, showed Sinwar, a key figure behind Hamas’s October 2023 attack, hiding in Gaza tunnels days after the assault.
The band’s display triggered widespread outrage online, with social media users accusing them of “normalizing terrorism.” One commenter wrote, “This is frightening. They’re glorifying terrorists. I hope the police investigate.” Another expressed disappointment, stating, “I tried to separate the art from the artist, but this is unforgivable.”
Known for their vocal criticism of Israel and support for the BDS movement, Massive Attack responded to the backlash on X, denying claims that the collage glorified Sinwar. “Isolating a single segment from its broader artistic context, addressing war, climate crisis, and controversial figures, is deliberate distortion,” they stated.
The band noted that the Sinwar footage was paired with scenes from Jean Cocteau’s Orpheus to evoke “grief and shock” about destructive leadership, as reported on Ynet. They questioned why critics ignored other figures like Putin and Trump featured in the collage, suggesting politically motivated attacks aimed at silencing their activism.
The band also recently voiced support for Irish rap group Kneecap after a member displayed a Hezbollah flag on stage, reaffirming their stance against “illegal occupation and apartheid.”
