A terrifying antisemitic attack unfolded in the heart of Crown Heights this week, as an armed assailant chased a yeshiva student through the neighborhood's streets in the early morning hours. The incident occurred in a community currently hosting visitors for the holiday season at Chabad world headquarters.
The attack took place overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a report on COLive. An African-American man armed with a knife pursued the yeshiva student into a private home while shouting Nazi slogans. The attacker also vandalized property before fleeing and was later apprehended following a complex pursuit involving both police and community volunteers.
The incident began around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Sterling Place and Brooklyn Avenue. The yeshiva student, walking through the area, noticed a man beginning to follow him, tracking his movements while hurling explicit threats and throwing garbage cans in his direction in an apparent attempt to injure and intimidate him.
Within moments, the situation escalated dramatically when the attacker suddenly drew a long knife and began running after the frightened young man. The yeshiva student, facing immediate mortal danger, found shelter by fleeing into a nearby private residence. He managed to cross the threshold and close the door at the last moment, averting a potentially catastrophic outcome. Miraculously, he sustained no physical injuries in the incident.
Even after the victim secured himself safely inside the home, the attacker remained outside the building made threatening statements at passersby and those present, including the phrase "now I know where you live," while repeatedly shouting antisemitic slurs and chants glorifying Hitler.
