Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of France's far-left party and one of the leading names in the race for the French presidency, has pledged in a speech to supporters that if elected to lead the country, he will not hesitate to deploy military forces "to halt the Israeli occupation and the Holocaust in Gaza," in his words.
In a speech broadcast on social media, Mélenchon promised his supporters he would do everything "to stop the Holocaust in Gaza, the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, the Golan Heights, and Lebanon." He announced he would not hesitate to confront Israel directly, stating that "if necessary, I will deploy military forces."
He went on to explain that he would send French warships to Israel's coast "to protect civilian vessels attempting to break the criminal siege on Gaza."
Mélenchon, once considered a fringe figure, has gained significant strength in French politics and is expected to be the leading figure on the French left and, according to all assessments, the leading candidate from the left-wing parties for the country's leadership in the 2027 elections.
