A man has been charged with five counts including assault and racially aggravated public order offenses after attacking multiple Orthodox Jewish women with a belt at a London bus stop Sunday afternoon. The incident, which occurred in the heart of the Hackney area's Jewish community, has intensified concerns over the escalating wave of antisemitic violence targeting visibly Jewish residents across the United Kingdom.
The assault took place at approximately 3:45 PM at the bus stop on Oswaldseston Road near Clapton Common, a neighborhood with a significant Haredi population. According to eyewitness accounts and police reports, the suspect began whipping several women with his belt while shouting severe antisemitic epithets. The attacker specifically targeted his victims based on their distinctly Orthodox Jewish appearance, witnesses stated.
